scary side affects with the depo provera birth control shot?
i’ve heard it can make you gain weight, but really, shouldn’t it depend on the person? i mean, everyone is different. i had planned on eating VERY healthy for awhile after getting my first shot, just to make sure i didn’t get fat or anything.
my mother’s friend told me that her daughter lost large clumps of hair. please tell my birth control isn’t going to make me fat AND hideous. =[
however, her daughter is a small girl, who “sleeps around” a bit. well, a LOT.
i don’t want irregular periods, and i don’t want them to completely stop.
i’m so nervous. my first shot is today, and i really don’t think i should even show up.
I only took it for 3 months because I didn’t like it at all. 70% of women gain at least 5 pounds, and a lot gain more than that. I didn’t change my eating habits at all and I gained almost 10 pounds. They say that you shouldn’t have a period, but that’s only after a full year of use. It takes a year for your body to get used to depo and during that year you could have periods or not. It’s also common to bleed the whole time your body adjusts to it. Your periods are supposed to stop over time. That’s the main reason women take depo, so if you don’t want that you should try something different.
Other minor effects are mood swings, vaginal dryness, increased risk for UTI’s. The vaginal dryness was so bad that sex became painful for a few weeks. I asked my doctor about it and he said it was normal.
Long term affects are still being tested, but now they know that depo can lead to bone density loss, increasing your risk of osteoporosis. The effects on breast cancer are still being tested.
If you have a hard time remembering the pill you could always try the patch. My doctor takes it and she loves it. I prefer the pill.
Good luck!
